When I changed mine about 2 years ago it was 11 years old :eek :eek but that equates to about 11,000 miles. One of the reasons it was so long is that I really liked it as it had lots of chrome and looked great with a silver visor. My main reason for changing is that I wanted a helmet with inbuilt flip down dark visor.
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
