Anybody got rid of the EXUP Valve and lived to tell the tale ?

Depends on where the wear is.  If it's end float, I'd try a stronger/longer spring between the pulley and the pulley washer.

If the wear is in the bushes/valve spindle, the only solution is to replace the worn parts or have new bushes machined up to appropriate specs.
