You may get away with spraying "contact cleaner" around the edges of the switch to try to spray behind it - worth a go. Failing that you need to disassemble the left switch assembly and clean the contacts properly, either with fine grade paper or ideally with a glass fibre pen.
Those are my principles...if you don't like them I have others.
