Jesus that's for rough as you like plastering or seriously badly applied filler! Generally sand with the highest grit you can to minimise work.
Once etched then primer/filler it without sanding. Let that set for 24 hours, guide coat it and hit with a good quality 600 or 800 grit on a block (gently!) and plenty of water and patience, stop when done; don't over sand it or under sand it. Any tiny imperfections can be filled with stopper/ knifing putty but will need priming over. Once happy that it's perfect colour it and clear it. If you are new to it then don't sand it after primer/filler, it will show. Once set sand very gently with 1200 or 1500 and polish. If touched by anything then panel wipe (don't leave the panel wipe on, wipe it off straight away) before applying paint, tack before every coat to remove dust / hairs etc..
It's a learning curve. The environment that you paint in will have a big impact on results.
