I covered the gap rail holes with black gloss sticky vinyl in a lozenge shape covering both holes with one piece but two layers to make it thicker it is nice and flat and unless you are standing next to the bike you can not see them. I was easy for me because its black but if you have a colour bike then you may struggle for a match I suggest you could go to a local sign makers who will have a big selection of colour vinyl on rolls.

I used the same mounting holes in the guard so needed a new plate so I could drill the holes in the new position on the plate.
I don't do rain or threat there of. dry rider only with no shame.
