Don't know about the Mighty 1000 but the Mini 600 oil level sight glass has two marks on the case Min & Max, I fill mine to the Max mark when the lump is warm.
I don't know if it the same with all the 600's, but, if my oil is at the lower 'Min' mark hard powering out of corners causes the oil light to flicker and stop as soon as the bike is upright, it don't recall if it did it more on the Left Handers or Right Handers.
The bike was full serviced when I picked it up and the oil light flickered the second day I had the bike, and to be honest was alarmed and thought to my self have a bought a bummer? But that was 5 years ago and it has never been an issue since. but at that time the level was down just about the minimum level.
What can happen is when you do an oil change with a new filter (always should) and fill the bike up to halfway between Min & Max, then when you start the bike and the new filter fills with oil and of course the filter never gives up that amount of oil, so the level is depleted by that amount dropping the oil level in the sight glass by that amount.
The amount of oil needed to take the level from Min to Max is a small amount.
Some one mentioned in this post that the 'Oil Light' does not work on a pressure switch but on a level switch, so I guess hard powering out of a corner will cause the oil to rush to the back of the engine as the front of the bike rises and the bike surges forward giving a false level reading.
