I once changed oil on my gen1 1000 and put too much in so that the oil level filled the whole window.
I put a small jug under the sump plug and eased it off untill oil started to seep out slowly whilst my son watched the oil sight glass, when he saw it level with the top mark he told me to tighten the plug back up. We measured the amount of oil removed, it was less than 125ml.
So it could be overfilled only by a small amount
.
Also how level is the ground where you are checking the oil level? I always check mine in my garage as I did the garage base myself and know it is flat, the bubble in my level is as near to the middle as I could get get it.
