Also if it's valuable, they should recommend that you send it Recorded or Special Delivery. If they've done that and there's a problem or it goes missing, they can say "We told the customer" and it avoids liability.

Unless it's the courier firm Yodel, they ask what's inside to know if it's worth nicking or not.
