I like them because they are unobtrusive and I have "layed" the bike down once while pushing it and saved damage, I think they take the weight off the indicators and help prevent them snapping or pushing through the fairing, its stupid how much damage you can do just dropping it on the spot and the bars could save, they would be an ideal place I think to mount the spots.
Here is a more front on picture - those that you are looking at fit a little higher up the frame as the top bracket is longer than my two point one which you can see on my first post picture.
