I am now in the habit of giving the stand an extra little kick forward to make sure its out.
At least you have made an effort to put it out, I once leant the bike to rest on the stand that I had not put out and did this in front of a shop window full of women looking at this biker who had just pulled up.

I did that years ago in a town centre but i was trying to park as close as i could to a wall so got pinned against it for a few seconds  :lol
