I am one sad tommyardin today :'(
Yesterday on my way back from Gosport in Hampshire (Collecting a marine Autohelm) my MR2 threw a con rod through the side of the engine, causing catastrophic failure, lots of blue smoke and 5 litres of semi synthetic oil scattered over 150 yards of the A3M.
My mechanic said we are looking at about £2.5 to £3K to get it back on the road with a secondhand lump, and even then no real guarantee on the S/H engine.
So I have put the old girl on Ebay tonight, the auction comes alive at 19:30 BST.
If you take a look you will see just some of the work my mechanic has done on the car for me.
I am FUCKING GUTTED. I love that little hairdressers motor, its not an unusual thing to happen to them around 100K miles, there are a couple of real weaknesses in that Toyota engine, its eager and quick off the mark, high revving but as said earlier there is an issue or two with them because of the American market and California's anti pollution regulations. The MR2 has 3 catalytic converters, one cat in the main silencer box and two cats in the exhaust manifold (Pre Cats) and coupled with an engine that re-breaths exhaust gases to help with pollution, its a disaster waiting to happen and it just fucking did, yesterday.
Now I am going to bed and cry for a week :'(

I am not going to but another MR2 cos they are like stunning women they will break your heart sooner or later.
the first picture is the trail of oil that I left behind about 150 yards long (80 mph) the second speaks for its self.
