With the ignition OFF, disconnect the TPS connector.  Turn the ignition ON and you'll see the 3k error code.  Now, plug the connector back together and you should see either of the 0 - 5 - 10k rpm readings by which you set the TPS position.

I was just looking in the Haynes and it says that on 03 onwards models you can only check and adjust the TPS using a multimeter ??? As the OP and myself have an 04 is this correct or can you do the above or is this a Haynes faux pas ???
