TV's, or monitors, tend to be overscanned when used with a computer for some reason, probably because your computer screen has a higher resolution.
If it's a newish tv there'll be an adjustment in the settings to correct that, but i found that it will then be wrong when you want to watch normal tv, so it will need switching back againonce you've finished.
Invest in a Chromecast gadget (unless your tv has built in Wi-Fi) and it will sort all that out for you wirelessly.
Also if you have an Android phone or tablet then your options to watch free stuff suddenly become huge.
Switching between TV and PC was where things went pear shape, I had had issues with my keyboard so for the first time I used the TV to watch some video and as stated changed the settings, lesson learned.
As for using it as a large monitor, works fine for me.
£200 for a 40" monitor, whats not to like!

Forget all this Black Friday nonsense, if you want a decent tv get a refurbished one from a well known manufacturer and you'll get a massively good deal which will save you a fortune, all guaranteed.
I think i paid about £400 for my refurbed 40" 4K tv.
