Sorted, wasn't computer settings, using TV as monitor and had adjusted screen size via settings without realising what effect it would have on the desktop etc. Doh

If your tv is set as Auto Aspect Ratio, it may set itself to the wrong one when connecting your computer, depending on its resolution.
Try changing it to one of the manual settings (e.g. 16:9, 4:3 etc.) and you should be able to get the whole desktop on the screen.
