Ok that might point to the starter button then. Maybe a bit of corrosion or something in it. Is it starting ok now? I'd try hooking up a multimeter to the wire going to the starter and see if you've got 12V at the motor when you hit the button. You could also short the starter solenoid and see if the motor spins if it does then the starter is probably fine and it's something on the low current side. The basics like fuses and the battery would be worth checking too
