Scart uses analogue signals so is susceptible to interference much more than HDMI which uses digital signals.
Gold plated cables HDMI are snake oil. The signal is there or it isn't for digital, nothing inbetween so no degredation using £1 cables normally.
My eldest worked for Currys for a while. They used to get bonuses for selling the gold plated ones at £40 a go. Cost to Currys was about £1.

I was using that term as a way of saying they're both shite, unless left well alone.
