Interesting. I think it's a bit like the water supply, do you get 'clean electricity' free from spikes or noise if you use the high end cables? Also, I wonder if you stay closer to a generating station do you get a better quality of product through the mains?

Gold plated cables HDMI are snake oil. The signal is there or it isn't for digital, nothing inbetween so no degredation using £1 cables normally.
My eldest worked for Currys for a while. They used to get bonuses for selling the gold plated ones at £40 a go. Cost to Currys was about £1.
