None of my last four did this, and this one didn't until a few thousand miles ago. It does it when accelerating gently in any gear.
I don't think it's an exhaust blow as it doesn't appear to be rev-related, just road speed. It's the same if I accelerate in one gear, or if I short shift through the box.
Today I whipped the sprocket cover off, cleaned up the gunge (wasn't that much), cleaned the chain again, properly cleaned the chain guide, and re-adjusted the chain. No change :\ The chain does have a bit of a tight spot now (adjusted to allow for this), so looks like new chain kit may be in order soon anyway. Still, you'd think adjusting the chain would make some difference if it were this.
