Crash bars / engine guards

I think the problem is they don't spread the load over several mount points like the engine bars do, they look better but because of their design you could end up with a twisted frame instead of a damaged engine casing

I guess it'll depend on the make up of the bungs too. I previously had some stock Yammy ones (that poke through the genuine belly pan). Dropped the bike a few times on them (all fairly low speed mind) - each time the mounting bracket for the bobbins just bent back, leaving frame fine.
