Not necessarily, generally product and material advances can still be tweaked based on feedback from a previous iteration. So it's not that last years tyres are shit... it's just that this years are slightly better... It's then entirely your choice of where you put your money (this is then where they will try to convince you of spending more but that depends on the rep / company )
