I have had two FZ6's S1 & S2, also had a CBF 1000 GT Mk1, also the Z1000SX 2011 model also the FZ1 2009 model. I am now running a 2013 MT-09.
If you are looking at a decent commuter bike but still want a bit of fun at the weekend and your budget is running to about £4/5k have a look for the Mk2 Honda CBF. They are nothing fancy, bit boring to look at but a well put together bike. The Mk1 CBF is also a great bike but they do have a problem with the Stators going into melt down. If you really want fun go for the Gen 2 FZ1, the Gen 1 is getting long in the teeth now, but still a great bike.
The Z1000SX is a great bike as well but does nothing that the FZ1 cannot do, also the Z1000SX & Kawasaki's build quality leave a lot to be desired, from an engineering point of view they are bullet proof but like all kwackers if you do not hit it with ACF 50 during the winter months it will show it's age in no time.
The Z800 is a bike that Kawasaki cannot give away, it weighs a ton and concerning rider comfort you will have to get an up market seat as you will also have to do with the Z1000SX stock seats are like a brick. The Z1000SX is also prone to falling off the side stand, check out www.z1000sx.co.uk. Me I just love my MT-09 although I think the build quality is certainly not as good as other Yamahas have been in the past.
