Frosties, try this forum www.cbf1000.com good bunch of lads and they will give you loads of advice.
I had a the MK 1 CBF1000 GT ABS with full luggage new to me in 2008. I toured down through France and Spain several times and it was a lovely comfortable bike apart from the Buffeting. I did 20,000 miles + in two years and she never missed a beat. Rode it all year round , thought the paint was a bit soft. One thing I did like was the Linked braking setup.
I lost faith in the bike when folk started reporting the stator failures and as I was into touring the thought of getting stranded down in France or Spain made me off load it. Honda had just introduced the Mk2 at a vastly inflated price and to be honest it just looked so bloody boring. I was at the NEC show in 2010 and Kawasaki had just introduced the Z1000SX at the same price as the CBF Mk 2 , no contest I bought the SX tourer and ran that for nearly 3 years great bike but not as comfy as the Mk1 CBF.
As you say you can pick a good one up for little money and is an ideal commuter.
