Sorry my mistake, I can't advise you on re-assembling the unit and the Haynes manual doesn't cover this, we have a few mechanics on the forums who will hopefully be able to advise. Personally I would still look at fitting a manual tensioner to eliminate any chance of failure of the automatic one, I think peace of mind in this regard is worth the £35. If you don't want to go the manual route and would rather not chance putting your old tensioner back in I still have my old OEM tensioner which I would be happy to let you have, it was fully functional when I removed it at around 30,000 miles.
