Can you check the wires from the ignition switch with a meter?
the switch can't be moved as I've no key
is there a short across the green and one other wire with the switch in its present state?
I've disconnected the ignition switch at the connector at the back and then connected the black and red wires together on the bikes wiring loom side, and connected my battery from my bike, after doing this I was able to press the starter switch on the handlebar and it turned over

If you do not have a meter a battery and bulb will do the trick

I think I'll put the carburettor back on, put some fuel in it and try it as above and see if it goes into action.

I found a wire in one of the connectors not inserted properly so that might be the reason it didn't start for previous owner.

In the note of the carburettor, does anyone think it's worth cleaning or just replace, it has been sitting idle for a few years and it doesn't look clean inside.
What would you clean it with?
It's approximately  £20 for a new one.
