Revved in neutral

Engine started thumping like a twin-tub washer on spin cycle!  :lol  The big end had gone. Ended up splitting the engine casing and got a crankshaft from a bike breakers. With a new set of white metal bearings I was back in business. Lessons learnt, don't think I've got the patience to do this sort of thing now.

I sat on a Zephyr years ago, i didn't need to ride it, once it was started it rattled like nails in a biscuit tin rolling down some stairs.
Bloody horrible thing, i would've been amazed if it could actually reach the red line at all to be honest.

I can only presume that the red line is a safety barrier type recommended place before hitting the real danger zone, but just giving the bike one blat of the throttle wouldn't do any harm at all, especially as the oil would've been warmed up.
More people are born because of alcohol than will ever die from it.
