Gear Shift strangeness

+1 check the clutch cable and possibly replace. Found my cable had a kink in it near the lever which must have hindered it's free movement. New cable definitely helped things going 1st -> 2nd. Still a bit crunchy mind, if I don't pull the clutch all the way in and close throttle completely (tweaking clutch cable t'other way led me to instances of clutch slipping). Was also a bit better following a fresh oil change.
