These bikes run a little rich anyway, all you are doing is making it richer by air starvation.
You should not be touching the choke at all in warm weather, it's simply not necessary, and as you are finding out will cause you problems.
I only use the choke on very cold mornings in winter.
Is your air filter okay?
If anything i would suggest you need more air, rather than shutting it off.
If you have no known history, treat it with a K&N air filter, it will improve the general running and feel of the bike.
