My country was a lot better of as a part of Socialist Federation of Yugoslavia. Before we got democracy. Free education, medical care, lots of jobs, etc.
However, that is not the point. The point is that 80% of world's population lives in poor condition. Some 2% of the richest hold 90% of the total resources. Then there's a rather small amount of people still living in somewhat decent conditions, feeling threatened by an influx of immigrants. Germany, UK, Italy...
It takes a lot to leave one's family, home and go live abroad. It's a hard life, being a stranger all your life. People don't do it unless they have to. Do I deserve a decent life more than some African man? Just because I was born 1000 miles to the north? I don't think so.
What we need, IMO on a global scale is German engineers, British police officers and Italian chefs. No excuses, no choice. A fascist regime.

Most things done in a hurry need to be done again - patiently.
