Wanted: quick release cradle for TomTom Rider v1
#10
The problem with the V1 holder was (is) that the unit jiggles up and down and wears down the pins on the back and you lose charging capability. You can charge the unit from the mains before you go out, but then you only get 5-6 hours before it dies. The whole point of these is to continuously charge from the bike battery. There was a big fuss at the time, with riders returning units under guarantee, but TomTom denied it was a design fault.
I've got the V2 and Tomtom redesigned the cradle completely. It's better, but not fault free. Mine sometimes loses contact where the socket plugs in underneath, and I have to wiggle it around to restore contact.
Underneath is a mini usb socket used fo mains charging, but you can't adapt to use that to charge on the run, because it's under a flap that also keeps the memory card in place with the operating system and the maps on it .....
Why did they make it so difficult !
