tapping sound when braking

Sit in front of the bike and have someone else apply the brake at different pressures whilst you try to move the wheel, you'll have a better sound of the noise and should be able to locate it, it's more likely the pads are moving slightly in the caliper but there could be other reasons that you'll be able to diagnose.
