With the tank stationary it takes 1.5 litres before fuel gets to the filter part of that stand up. You wont get all that by doing away with the stand pipe because there is about 0.2 litres in the depressions below the fuel tap fitting face level. Probably gain a bit over 1 litre in practice along with any water that might be in there from condensation etc. Any bits of rust ect should get caught with the in-line fuel filter and IMHO any water is probably better being burned off than staying in the tank. so how do we burn the water off ???? 


do we fill to brim so water is floating at top and then put a lighted match to it  :lol :lol :lol
