Sorry for digging up an old thread, but did you ever find out what was causing this? I just bought a 2002 FZS600 2 weeks ago and it has a very similar fault. At first, the pass light didn't work at all. But after my first run out on the bike, the pass light started working, but when I press it, my display goes off for a split second (rev counter etc. all goes off), then it comes back on again and the oil light and fuel light flash like they do when you first start the bike. I also noticed that the pass light isn't as bright as the full beam is when you flick the full beam on via the headlight switch.
I opened my left hand switch gear and the wires seem fine. I also checked the voltage at the battery in case the battery was on it's way out and that's what was causing the issue, but I'm getting around 12.6V from the battery when the bike is off and around 14V when the bike is running.
I imagine the fault could be a bad earth, as mentioned in the original post, but where am I best checking next? Are the main connections under the fuel tank?
Thanks
