The alarm affects the ECU. You need 2 shorts to make it work. Unfortunately all cables are black. Maybe to not make it too easy to bypass the alarm for a thief.
As mentioned before there was a change in 2003. The ECU checks for the headlight to work. If your ECU is before 2003 the loom doesn't matter.
For the later I'm not completely sure. Might be that the respective ECU input expects 12V to enable the ignition. Or some kind of current that drives the headlight relay.
