Oh no no no - I consider all the replacement model FZ bikes to be inferior to the original FZS machines.

Fuel injected, disappointing tank range, odd power delivery (actually all three of those probably closely related), odd standard exhaust (admittedly easy but expensive to replace), uncomfortable seat and the faired version, tho similar to an old Foxeye is somehow not the best to look at.  Tho I do like the look of the unfaired version...

I'm talking a machine back in the late '90's very similar to the FZS600 but instead with a modified YZF750 or thunderace engine.  I reckon Yam could have shifted quite a few.  Indeed, the 1000 Fazer with it's R1 derived engine may never have come into existence had they went for a larger Fazer in the late 1990's.  But enough conjecture,  I'll maybe just continue searching for the highly elusive Japanese 660cc piston kit that TTS were meant to stock but never seemed to obtain.
