chipped keys again (i know i know :D)
#5
Trouble with auto keys nowdays is you need to invest a lot of money in kit (regularly) and have the constant technical back up - who often tell you that you need to spend more money on kit!
So, often, a key you couldn't copy previously, you now can because of an update you didn't know about.
Having said that, many key cutters are now shying away from this side of the business, me included.
I can still do basic non button keys (including Yamaha Smile ) so in reality there are not that many I do nowdays.

House keys are just starting to get awkward as well. There is a Yale key around now that my normal array of machines cant do it. I need to invest £7000 in a machine just to cut these.
So don't think the locksmiths are ripping you off!!!!

As a lot of auto work involves lost keys, you need to be mobile. I reckon a younger man whos prepared to be on constant call (no life), who could fill a van with £20 grand of kit and be prepared to travel a bit, could earn a few bob!
