well I should have done one thing at a time
for now I cleaned the connectors under the tank as i cant find the connectors I got to replace the old one and fitted a new charged battery
reading are now
ignition off 12.40 - 12.60 volts same with ignition on , engine running no lights 13.40 t 13.60 volts and the same 13.40 to 13.60 volts with the light fuse back in and lights on !
so I am guessing those are ruffly right ?
