Sounds like a dead battery to me possibly finished off by the grips and leaving it parked up. Have you got a multimeter? The lights coming on isn't really a sign of a healthy battery because it takes a lot more current to turn the engine over than it does to power the lights. You could try pushing the starter switch and while it's pushed give the starter motor a few taps with a hammer and see if it turns over. There's a chance it's stuck from carbon dust but it's more likely that the battery is weak. If you've got another 12v source like a car you could try jumping it off that and if the starter spins you know it's the bikes battery that's the problem. Be sure to keep the car engine off if you do it.
