Gasket doesn't do anything and doesn't need to be replaced. Only minor point would be that if it were to come away when you remove the cover then minor adjustment of the clutch lever may be necessary to account for new position of cover as the push rod mechanism connects in there and is quite sensitive. Should be able to do just on the handlebar end.

Another hint would be to mark the position of the gear shift lever mechanism so you can get it back where you're used to it, or even better now would be a good time to adjust if required... moving it down a couple of notches made a good improvement to my gear changes.

Expect to feel the need to give the area a good clean up when you see inside! It can be a bit of a shocker!

I'm not very mechanically confident but even I managed this one, you'll be fine.
