Problem solved 
.....swapped clocks with a known goodun and works ok...stripped the clocks and all I could find was some white powder on the circuit board..cleaned it up and hey presto , working now..... ...thanks for all the helpfull comments, could'nt of done it without you... :rollin :rollin :rollin......think its ready for MOT now
