I've mixed a Givi top box / rack with Krauser K2 panniers for over 20yrs on more than one bike and found it to be a great system.
The K2 panniers are slim (mid size ones), but hold plenty and they sit on a "boomerang mounting arm that's pretty easy to make up (posh bodge) mountings for and they're easy to fit separately to a Givi rack. You can see the mounting arms on my wife's old VF in the picture below - the panniers fit securely, the arms are unobtrusive and easy to position - these are going on our sons '03 Fazer 600 for our 2week summer tour.
His bike already has a Givi rack fitted - once the Krausers are fitted I'll pop up a pick.
