Thanks for that - in the end I had to weigh down the back end (with the bike on centre stand) to get the front wheel off the ground completelly, then a little bit of wiggling of the fork leg sorted it.
Rides fine now but think the handlebar clamps are a bit bent - will be easier to tell when I get some straight bars on it.
