You were risking it much more with used engine oil as it has a high acid content and not good for the O-rings, used engine oil is only useful for burning to heat garages, fresh vegetable oil has to be an improvement.
It is fresh is it? Would not fancy getting it on my rear tyre though. :rolleyes
