Is this bike really overpriced ? I have come to the right place haven't I ? This is the Fazer Forum is it not ?
How many threads have there been on this forum over the years about how the Gen 1 is one of the best bikes ever built ?
How many threads have there been about people pondering over what to replace their Gen 1 with but never actually finding anything that comes close ?
How many threads have there been about people buying this and that part for their bike or doing work to improve it's cosmetic appeal ?
The way I see it most people budget around £3000 when looking for a nice Gen1. Yes, they can be had for less than that as we all know but no doubt they will need a bit of money chucking at them to bring them up to par and they would still be nowhere near the condition that this one looks to be in the pictures.
I think if you are looking for a Gen 1 to be your all year round commuter then this one could seem a little overpriced as after 12 months it would have been pointless spending that bit extra when things begin to fade and tarnish. However, if it was to be your sunny sunday plaything that you could keep on top of then it could turn out to be a good purchase. It all depends on how you view a bike and what your intended purpose is for it.
I agree with some of the comments above about bikes being made to be ridden but that doesn't have to mean ridden to death does it ? Its an owners personal choice whether they do 1000 miles a year or 10,000 isn't it. Besides, if they were only made to be ridden, there would be no such thing as Museums. Some owners get as much pleasure out of looking at and polishing their steeds as they do from riding them.
I personally think the price is reasonable given the mileage and condition and the fact it needs absolutely nothing spending on it. How much would you spend on one that needed a set of tyres (£220) chain and sprockets (£120) brake pads all round (£75) etc etc within the first few months of ownership ?
If I had £4k lying around I would certainly be considering it and I just want to add that I don't know and have never spoken to the seller. I just thought I would chip in my 10p worth.
