Braking heavily with the throttle open?


If you're looking from the right side of the bike i think i've positioned the cable at about the 7 o'clock mark, so it won't interfere at all.
Each to their own though. 

Or perhaps I should say when the brake lever comes back towards the bar. Eg. If your brakes need bleeding that could happen whilst not necessarily braking super hard. Shape of the lever could also influence how soon contact between that protruding bit of the grip and brake lever occurs. For me, as we're talking brakes, there's merit in being on the safe side.

If you blip the throttle on downshifts, you are usually braking, sometimes very hard with the lever pulled all the way back, whilst pulling the clutch in and opening the throttle, sometimes a lot, to match the engine revs to the rear wheel revs. So yes braking heavily with the throttle open does happen if you employ this technique. Also, if you are trail braking, you can brake surprisingly hard whilst maintaining an open throttle mid corner. However, most people do that on track not the road, if at all.

If where you've positioned your grip means that there isn't any contact at max open throttle and max lever pulled back, like you've done Darrsi, that's the safest arrangement imho. Each to their own, as with riding technique & style, but a mate of mine had interference on his bike and it did bother me somewhat, me have OCD perhaps  :lol
