Problems with Mk4 VW Golf central locking

I have a Mk 4 Golf with central locking issues? I know these have a little vacuum pump in the boot. Mine is operating but i'm not sure if its running the correct vacuum?
Does anyone know of a way of checking? Thanks, Mickey the head scratcher
