That style of lock, you need the key to open and close it from both sides.
If this is ok then that is a good type of lock for a gate.
Have a look for an Azbe gate lock, they are good and you can replace the cylinder if you need to change the keys.
However, if you don't want the agro of having to use a key from the inside every time, how about a digital keypad type lock?
Always free exit from the inside and no keys to faff about with from outside. You may have to put some extra wood in to widen the fixing point and you can pick one up for around £30.
