I guess if you compare it to buying a new bike, what, £8-10 grand? Then you'd probably spend money setting that up how you want it (tho probably not as much as the example I've given for mine). The gen 1 is probably quite as capable a bike as many a new model if you do the main bits to it. In fact, I'm still not sure that anyone has come out with as capable an all-rounder since then. Maybe the new Z1000SX. But then there's the looks thing. Bikes tend to be affairs of the heart, rather than the head for many of us, and that kind of skews the field a bit too.
