Have done the headlight mod, with Osram nightbreakers on both sides. Whilst their is definitely a huge improvement, i'd say still not good enough for country roads in the current crappy weather.
I'm not sure how much better HID would be, but it would seem to be a good alternative for not much more £'s. I'm now considering changing my left low beam to HID
