Maybe its time for a change - but to what??
#57
Theres a cb1300 for sale on here...have you considered that mate?  Probably one for the older feller ( im 53) who grew up on seventies bikes, but ....It's a good bike, the old cb13.. though not for everybody. It doesn't have anything like the engine of a busa, despite being 1300 cc. It isn't as sharp, light or quick of the mark as my fz1. It only has five gears, and is best ridden short shifting into top then staying there. It's really, really heavy. But ..... if I could only have one bike it would be my cb.

Why? The looks are pure eighties muscle bike, and I love that. The build quality is phenomenal. On sticky tyres it will stay with anything ridden by an average rider, and muscling it thru bends is hugely rewarding. Its balanced, and on the move, agile. Whilst not demonically fast, it's quicker than you think..I had all day out on my busa yesterday in case it sells soon, and whilst it fucks off at an unbelievable rate even left in top, I didn't get anywhere any quicker than I would on the cb. The big Honda is as comfy as an old gs thou, and dare i say it, even comfier than a gen 1 fazer. Its a superb pillion bike and then some. You get all your nostalgia kicks without the skinny tyres, hinge in the middle frame and shite brakes. It does have summat the busa has, that many jap bikes haven't got, and that's road presence. I enjoy that aspect of it just as much as I do grunting about back lanes on my Hardley Movinson fat bob. It's just one of them bikes that to me looks bloody good and delivers on those looks in the purity of the riding experience you associate with a z1 or similar. It's not as sporty as a gen I fazer, but delivers in different ways.
For me, much like the first fazer thou its the perfect Everyman bike. Which means I'm far more likely to sling on a jacket and get it out of the garage for a blast than think" ooh, I dunno, it looks like rain, there's that thing on telly I'm vaguely interested in, missus wants me to fix that bloody busted thing, don't really fancy squeezing into all me gear, it's to hot, it's too cold, it's too fucking this and that...." you know what I mean;-)
You just look at it, think "yup I fancy a gentle hoon/ lairy blast/ amble to the coast/ track day/ foreign holiday/ nip to me mums for some home made cake.." Whatever really. And also, sadly enough as It may be, I always feel cool as fuck onnit. Can't think of a better reason to have a bike than any of the above :-)
