Damaged wire, corroded earth, or a failed relay or bulb possibly. Do your other lights work? Has it failed on both high-beam and dip?
If you have a multimeter, test for 12V dc at the h/lamp bulbholders; if you have voltage, check your bulbs and their contacts (they can weaken and loosen with age). If there's no voltage there, follow the wiring back to the next connector, and test for voltage there (keep following back until you DO find voltage).
